I'm at the grocery store in the shopping district. Where are you?

[It's been some time since Kesara has sent a message like this to anyone outside her usual circle, and she is a little wary. About the message, about the question she means to ask. But Kid, as far as she'd been able to gather, is a boy not much older than her - a boy certainly, and a sahib, though she thinks that might not matter, but not much older, and very polite. This won't go terribly wrong, she thinks. Curiosity does demand risk.]

Hullo - it was Kid, wasn't it? How are you - very cold?

[He'd seen Stein's name in the Obits and John's rather concerned about his traveling companion and what might have happened... and what he might do.]

Kid, it's Dr. Watson. Are you up for talking right now? I saw the Obituary, and I'm very sorry. Are you safe? Are you inside somewhere?

Where are you?

[No "are you all right". He doesn't want to know. If that thing got to Kid, Stein doesn't want to hear about it.]

[The static's back, obscuring most of the message, but not the tone of Stein's voice, or the glare of snow and rubble. He's not really holding the tablet in a way that makes much sense, or in a way that seems intended to show any part of his face. It's just sort of there, just clutched in a fabric-wrapped hand.

His words still have that rapid speed, that manic edge he's rarely been free of for the hundred and seven days he's been in this frozen hellhole. But there's something else, something he doesn't ever want his students to hear from him. He's the teacher, the adult. His voice is full of sheer panic.]

[For once, Undertaker doesn't have a cheerful tone to his voice as he leaves a message.]

Are you inside somewhere safe? What are you feeling right now?

[Because he's unsure of whether Kid feels like running for his life, or perhaps itching to cut someone's throat right about now.]

[Too much has happened today. Far too much. John needs to contact Kid, though. Reassure him. Do... something. It's the last thing Alfie asked him to do before shutting the door between them. It's the least he can do. It takes him a few tries before he thinks he's ready to talk and sound confident and reassuring.

Too much has happened, but Kid may have just lost a friend permanently to... whatever horror was visited on Claire. Not to mention Stein's name turning up in the Obituaries again.]

Kid, Alfie contacted me earlier and let me know what happened with Claire. Can you talk to me? I'm sorry if you want to speak with someone else, I can see if there's anyone else, but I'd like to help, if I can.

How's your eye?

Kid, I - I'm back.

[She takes a heavy breath, loud in the recording.]

I am so, so sorry. Are you alone? I woke up down south but I will come back up to you if you need me to. It will just take me a few days.

Saw the name of the nurse you were with on the obituary.

Don't be surprised if you see my name on the obituary. I'm going to be conducting an experiment.

The experiment appears to have been a complete success!

[While Quark waits for his company to show up at Andromeda's house, an idea hits him! It's weird for him to think that even having been here since so close to the beginning, there are still people here he hasn't talked to yet. So he decides to try and change that, little by little. Good thing his death effect has worn off, cause that would've made this an exceptionally weird first impression.]
